Richard Reed is determined to find a permanent cure for the Thing, so he calls a world renowned chemist to bring him some essential chemicals. As the chemist arrives in the city, he gets kidnapped by a mysterious man who disguises himself as the scientist. After entering the Baxter building, the disguised man helps Reed to set up the preparations, and just before shooting the curing rays on the Thing, the fake chemist applies some adjustments to the machine. The Thing appears unchanged, but proves to be particularly hostile towards Reed.
